Merry Christmas

In this season of political correctness, it would seem that it's OK to wish someone Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanza or any other holiday you would like to mention over the season, or make one up, I'm sure it will become very popular. Well, I say, MERRY CHRISTMAS! I'm sorry if the mention of Christmas offends, but it IS the celebration of my Lord's birth and I will celebrate and not apologize for it. I'm not going to water it down with Happy Holidays or Merry Xmas. I don't know if the liberal press has noticed or not, but most people in this nation celebrate Christmas. My celebrating the birth of my Lord should not bother anyone celebrating another holiday just as Hanukah doesn't offend me, why shoud Christmas offend someone else? When did it become popular to treat Christians as the minority? It's propogated by the same people who would like heterosexuals to feel as if we are the minority. It's the same people who want us to believe that morals are a thing of the past. It seems that, as usual, those with the loudest voices are in the minority, but try their best to make us feel inferior or not quite as enlightened as they.

My Bible says about this bunch of political correct idiots, "Proclaiming themselves to be wise, they became fools". This is who our media intelligencia would like us to believe are the ones who are truly "smarter than the average bear". What does the Bible say? "Fools" Oh, I know, I'm not supposed to quote the Bible. That would be wrong. Wait, is it politically correct to call someone wrong these days? Oh wait... Yes... One can say whatever one likes about Christians. We are those archaic individuals who actually believe the Bible to be the Word of God. We are those who actually try to uphold decency and respect for authority, you know, law and order.

Well, I will conclude the way I began. It doesn't matter that someone else in another corner of the country is shouting us down. Let's hold our heads up high as we freely proclaim the birth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. "I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes" (Rom 1:16). Merry Christmas!!! There, I said it.

Give Thanks

An old friend of mine, Don Moen, penned these lyrics to a song once popular in the church and I have been singing this song in my head for a couple of days:

Give thanks with a grateful heart
Give thanks unto the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son

And now let the weak say, 'I am strong'
Let the poor say, 'I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us'

Give thanks

This song is really meaningful on a day like today. It says now let the weak say I am strong. Why? Because of what the Lord has done. Let the poor say "I am rich" why? Because of what the Lord has done. To me, Moen is reminding us that in Christ no matter what our station, we are rich because we have Jesus and his mercy and grace. He's saying with the Apostle Paul that His strength is made perfect in weakness so that when we are weak then He can be strong in our lives.

I think this day and through the holiday season, this is going to be the song that I call back to memory. I know it's not scripture, but it certainly agrees with the Word. Let's be truly thankful for what the Lord has done for us.

Race Barrier Thankfully Removed

Martin Luther King Jr. said that he had a dream of an America where a man is judged by the quality of his character, not the color of his skin. I too believe in THAT America. While I am happy that we have moved past the race barrier in our choice of a President (by the way, in the Republican primary, I voted for Alan Keyes), and I'm indeed happy that we live in a time where a person of any race can actually achieve the highest office in the land. I am not happy that many voted for Obama simply because of the color of his skin. I chose not to vote for Obama because of the quality of his character. While everyone believes that they have chosen the next John Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. all rolled in one. I’m afraid that we will soon find they are wrong. We will soon see that an inexperienced socialist will not bring the kind of change we want no matter what color he is. I pray I am wrong.

I feel good that we finally live in a nation that will elect a person, no matter what race they are. That makes me feel good. We’ve waited for this for a long time. Racism seems to be dead in the election process thank God. I hope capitalism is not dead in the process.

It's Over?

It’s Over? Really? It’s Over? But we haven’t even voted yet! Well, I have because I voted early. I thought the election was tomorrow, Nov 4, 2008! But they say it’s over!!!

If you turn on or read the media no matter which brand you choose to adhere to, this election is over and people may as well not go out and vote. They have already inaugurated Barrack Obama President and have given even stronger majorities to the democrats in both houses of congress. The polls basically show a toss up at this point. The exit polls from early voting show the vote even when they were all positive that early voting would go wildly in Obama's favor, but it hasn't according to exit polls which, for one reason or another always favors the dems. The battleground states all show even or a one vote gain for one candidate or the other. But the press is calling it for Obama.

Why am I writing again? Well, one more call for reason. Number one, the atmosphere reminds me of 1994. If you reach back and remember, the press was calling for a democratic sweep and major gains for the dems in both houses of congress. It almost made many Republicans stay home in the first mid-term election in the Clinton Presidency. What happened? What happened was a major upset by the Republican party. That's right. The media was wrong. I think they are wrong again.

The polls don't really show the media's point of view even if you believe their misguided numbers. Now the press has artificially created an atmosphere to make conservatives and moderates feel like we are in the minority. They have purposely worked to manipulate the reporting to make it seem that if you are not for Obama, you are out of touch. But I look at the values of normal Americans and I don't see it.

I'm a person with chronic illnesses and I for one do not want to go to a healthcare system which will create lines and waiting lists for critical health care services. I'm not for mandating that small businesses must provide healthcare for their employees when it will mean layoffs. My wife immigrated from Canada where they have Obama's healthcare plan and the average Canadian pays 60% of their income to taxes to fund the healthcare system and then they come to the states to get critical care because they are put on waiting lists in their own country and I mean waiting years for needed surgeries. I don't think most Americans want these things either.

I don't think most Americans want a President who is friends with known terrorists and terrorist sympathizers and anti-American ministers.

I don't think most Americans want a commander in chief who will be weak on national defense.

I don't think most Americans want the federal government taking their paycheck and distributing it to people who don't or won't work for a living via spreading the wealth around.

I don't believe most Americans want a President who has not achieved even one legislative accomplishment.

I don't believe most Americans are against life.

I don't believe that most Americans want judges who legislate from the bench.

I believe that the media believes that you are that dumb, but I don't.

I don't believe that you are going to buy into the lie that a President Obama will give you a tax cut. I've gone online and read his plan for myself. His math does not add up. He thinks you can't do math for yourself. I can and I think you can too. Every American will pay more taxes under Obama and every economist says so. Some were dumb enough to be duped by Clinton when he promised a middle class tax cut. Did we get it? No, we got a middle class tax increase. He justified it by saying he didn't realize how bad things were until he got in office. Obama will say the same thing or something similar.

I'm just a guy, but a political participant and observer for several decades and I see another 1994 in the making if everyone will just get out and vote and not believe the rhetoric being propagated by the media. I think not only will Obama lose, but Republicans will gain seats in both houses. The democratic congress of the past 2 years led by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed is at a 9% approval rating. Sure Bush is at 35%, but the dems in congress are at 9%. Why would we throw out the Republican in the White House and not throw out the dems running congress? The logic doesn't make sense.

No, I may be wrong, but I see poor Tom Brokaw and Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric choking back tears as they wonder how the conservatives could have pulled off such an upset. It has happened before. The stage is set for it to happen again. It's not over. Get out and vote and tell everyone that America is not stupid enough to fall for the media's ploy in this. We still have values. We still love democracy and we still choose capitalism and we choose life and judges who interpret the constitution. No, the American people are not as shallow as they think. We are not as dull and uninformed as they hope.

Spreading the Wealth Around - the founding fathers

Someone sent me these quotes from those who wrote the Constitution. The argument about taking from one and giving to another is not a new topic. Does it have any place in our representative democracy? I will simply give you the quotes that were sent to me and let them speak for themselves. Feel free to comment:

Offended that Obama has been called a socialist?

"From each according to his abilities to each according to his needs."

Who said this? This is a direct quote from the founder of communism, Karl Marx.

What does it mean? Well it says, "from each according to his ability". This means we take money according to what a person has the ability to earn. Someone who makes nothing gives nothing and someone who makes a lot gives a lot. Now, after the government takes the money, what do they do with it? We have always had a progressive tax code and rich people will pay a bit more than those who have none, but what is done with the money once it has been taken?

Well, this quote from Marx continues, "to each according to his needs". So, we take money from those who have money not to pay down the national debt; not to strengthen our military efforts; not to put in place opportunities to create new jobs. No, we take the money from those who make money (work for a living and create jobs) so that we can then give that money to people who do not have the ability (job) to make that money on their own. We take from one who works hard to build a business or a career and give that to someone that does not work hard to build a business or a career.

Now, who does this sound like? It sounds like Obama's "spreading the wealth around" statement. Obama wants to redistribute wealth from those who work hard to those who hardly work. This is pure communism. This whether the democrats want to admit it is following one of the major tennants of communism. Did we (Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush) overcome communism in the world only to bring it home to the United States? I sincerely hope not. That's what Barack Obame, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd have in mind if we give them the White House and both houses of congress. There will be no more voice for Capitalism. What will be the incentive to work hard if all of your hard work goes to pay someone else for not working at all? You may say, "this could never happen in the United States". It's already happening under this democratic congress which has controlled the purse strings of our nation for the past two years.

Many blame the President for out present financial condition, but let me remind you that the Constitution charges the congress and the House of Representatives with the duty of controlling the national budget. The President suggests a budget, but it's the congress who passes a budget and let me assure you that it was not the budget the President sent down that got passed these past 2 years. What happened when the Republicans controlled congress during the first 6 years of George Bush's Presidency? Record growth in the stock market. Record job creation. What happened in he past 2 years? All of that growth went away and we find ourselves in the worst economic state since the great depression. Let's not stick our heads in the sand. Who has been in control these past two years? It's a democratic House and a democratic Senate. This is what Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed have brought you.

What will happen if we add on top of this economy regulations which will drive more small businesses out of business? Where will the middle class and the poor find jobs if their employers go out of business. What will happen if we allow socialism to run unchallenged in the United States Congress and in the White House? Can we afford even 4 years of a Marxist government?

Please God, have mercy on us. Forgive us of our transgressions. God bless America again.

Do We Value Truthfulness?

I’ve heard a lot of people say, “I’ve heard Barack Obama say…” and we have all heard him say a lot of things. How do I judge what a man says? I would simply like to trust what people say to me, but I think we have all been lied to and what do we do when someone lies to us? Do we simply decide to believe the liar or do we learn something from the lie that was told to us?

I believe that people want to believe our leaders. We want to give them the benefit of the doubt unless they have been proven to lie. The danger with a man like Barack Obama who has never actually accomplished anything and who runs on a bunch of promises is that we don’t have much of a record to look at. So, the question is, if we are going to possibly make this man the most powerful man on the face of the earth, is he honest? Can we trust Barack Obama to do what he says he will do?

Let’s look at just a couple of small things. Number one, Senator Obama said that he would take public funding for his campaign if John McCain would pledge to do so. John McCain, who has been a champion of campaign finance reform, pledged to take public funding. This means that funds available for the McCain campaign would be limited to $80,000,000 for the campaign and the idea is that both candidates would have the same money to run on so people would not get a barrage from one and not from the other. It evens the playing field if both candidates stick to it. John McCain agreed to it and so did Barack Obama. However, once he had McCain agree, Obama decided not to be a man of his word. McCain, even though he knew it would put him at a disadvantage, stuck to his word and Barack Obama DID NOT. He lied in order to suck McCain into a deal which he knew would put McCain at a severe disadvantage. In the last debate when confronted about this, Obama did not bat an eye. He did not apologize for the lie, he simply justified himself and moved on.

Why is this important? Well if all we have is words, it’s important to know if the words are true.

He said that William Ayers was only a man who happened to live in his neighborhood. Is that true? No, it’s not true. William Ayers is a man that is documented to be a person that Obama has had a 20 year relationship with. He helped form a foundation with Mr. Ayers and in fact, Barack Obama launched his political life from the living room of William Ayers who happens to be an unrepentant terrorist. For the purposes of this blog, I don’t care about the character of Mr. Ayers. I do care about the character of Mr. Obama. Why did he feel the need to lie?

When asked about his pastor of 20 years who was spouting anti-American sentiments from the pulpit. Mr. Obama said that this man who was his pastor for 20 or more years, married he and his wife, baptized his children. A man who he sat under his teaching for at least 2 Sundays a month for 20 years, Mr. Obama says he was not much of an influence on his life. He was just a pastor that had relationships in the neighborhoods Mr. Obama was working in as a community organizer. But in fact Mr. Obama titled his book after the title of the book that his pastor wrote.

Why is this important? Well if all we have is words, it’s important to know if the words are true.

Now there are many more examples of things Mr. Obama seems to have lied about, but these suffice. All we hear are words. Mr. Obama says that he will lower taxes. Can we believe that when it would seem that he says one thing when it’s convenient and then does the opposite as in taking public funds for the campaign. His pledge didn’t seem to matter when the rubber met the road and he wondered why we cared that he didn’t live up to his promise as if we should not expect him to keep his word. When examining the record, Mr. Obama has never EVER voted for a tax reduction. Why should we expect him to do so now? In fact when he says 95% of all working Americans will receive a tax break. Economists say this is virtually impossible. But Mr. Obama wouldn’t lie. Would he? Maybe he would.

He says he is not a socialist and yet when you read his own book he prides himself on picking friends who are “communists”. He says you have to be careful to pick your friends right and he was always fascinated with the socialist and communist view. He says he has no relationships with terrorists and yet he is supported by the former spokesman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization and many shady characters which seem to have backed his campaign from terrorist nations. But he wouldn’t lie would he? He lied about Mr. Ayers and his relationship with his former pastor, so would he?

The question at hand is this: if all we have are promises, can we trust the man who promised. One careful look at McCain says he is consistently a man of his word. Once careful look at Mr. Obama says he has made many questionable statements (lies). I can’t trust him. Can you?

The Change to Socialism

Last week we heard how Washington had solved all of our financial problems by passing a government takeover of much of the free market. It's been great this week since the solution has been found hasn't it? I mean isn't it great that the market is back up and everyone's savings are safe? Everyone who wants to borrow is able to borrow again. Businesses are flourishing and all is well with the world. Right?

Of course, not right. When all of this was suggested, I blogged that this was the wrong answer. I was shocked that a supposedly conservative President was going along with it. I'm sorry; Socialism is never the answer to ANYTHING in a free market economy. Those who do most of the money making and strengthening of the economy are free market capitalists. When the government steps in and begins to invade their territory, they pull their money out because they know better than anyone that the US government has no idea how to deal with ANYONE'S money. If left to the federal government to make a profit on anything, we would all be miserably and utterly penniless. The private sector knows how to make money and they know that the federal government does not.

Each time the government has "intervened", the markets have sharply dropped. Why? Well, the evil capitalists (democratic opinion) are greedy and don't want the government to "regulate" their industry (the democrat says). The reality is (sorry those who believe in class warfare and want to paint the rich as evil greedy people) that those who know how to make money are those who have the most to lose in the stock market. They are also the ones who make the middle class 401k, or in my case 403b, go up in value on a regular basis. They have been demonized by those on the left and now even some so called conservatives have been buying into it. These are the people without whom we would fall into another great depression. "Hey, let's punish the rich, the business owner, the man" the politician says. But just look at who is being punished. It's the retirement age woman who lives down the street from me who barely has enough in her retirement account to live on for her twilight years who has lost more than $12,000 in an already thin IRA. Is the rich man hurt, no, but he's not leaving his money in the market because he doesn't want the feds telling him how to manage it.

Oh, was there wrong doing in lending practices and so forth that needed to be addressed? Absolutely and those folks needed to be punished, but how our free market turned into a socialist nightmare, I will never understand. Let's just tax everyone who makes over a certain amount of money. Let's go in and take over all of their industries. Let's take over mortgages and give the federal government complete control over the majority of our economy. (sarcasm intended)

When we raise taxes on those who create jobs, they are not hurt, the middle class and the poor are hurt because jobs are cut and wages are cut and benefits are cut to make up for the additional taxes. When the government takes over investments in the stock market, those who drive the market take their money out and invest somewhere else, like precious medals and bonds and the ones left holding the bag are the middle class and the poor who see their retirement and college funds dry up. Look where the market is right now if you want to know what that looks like. When the government takes over the real estate markets, we are no longer free and our banks have to bow to the federal bureaucracy and loan values and property values all lose value. It’s not the rich who suffer from this. They have plenty of money (thus the title “rich”) It is the small guy who suddenly has a house that he is trying to sell that is no longer even worth what he paid for it. It’s the little guy who now can’t get a mortgage or a loan to buy a car. It’s you and it’s me that gets hurt. We are staring directly into another great depression if this socialist takeover is not stopped.

Now, I will say, neither Presidential candidate seems to have a good grasp on how to get us out of this, however, one candidate will greatly exacerbate the situation with his increased taxes on "the rich" (those who created your job) and increased business taxes. John McCain will not make the situation worse. He won’t fix it either, someone else will have to step in and start making some sense of all of this. McCain will, however make a large aspect of this crisis better by relieving those who create jobs with lower business and capital gains taxes. This will free up some monies to help create jobs and increase industry and GDP. Obama will simply make this situation much worse by raising taxes on those who created your job, those who invest in the market and make your retirement account worth more. He will force small businesses to pay for health care when they can’t afford it and fining those who can’t. Small businesses (those with 500 employees or less) are the major source of jobs in our country. His policies will drive many who provide jobs for you and me out of business. What will we do then? Oh yeah. Let’s stick it to the man. Really? Hmmm… It seems that when we “stick it to the man”, we are the ones who end up hurt. Do we really want that? People have been yelling for change. I for one do not welcome THIS change. This is nothing new. It’s what we defeated when we brought down communism in Eastern Europe. Are we now going to be the next great socialist experiment? I say, “Please no”.

What do we need to do? We need to write our Congressmen and Senators and let them know that we are not happy with this socialist take over. This is the democratic majority and unfortunately our President going seriously off course and taking us down a slippery slope which will indeed end up in our complete loss of freedom. Mark my words; we may be in the last days of freedom in this nation. This has to stop. Make as much noise about it as you possibly can.

Why are lies left unchallenged?

It is amazing the favorable treatment Barack Obama receives or shall I say, the “stick your head in the sand” treatment? This is what I mean. When the economic crisis happened, John McCain suspended his campaign (his part of it anyway) and went to Washington. Now Obama and his pun dents say that he went to get the Republicans to vote for the existing bill and that he failed. Well, factually, is that what he said he went to do? No. He said that there was no support on the GOP side for the existing 3 page bill that Hank Paulson sent to the congress. He went to Washington to get a compromise and to get the GOP voice to be heard. Everyone who reports on the meeting he had in the White House with congressional leaders and the President, say the same thing. All of the dems including Barack Obama supported the Paulson bill as it was and the house GOP introduced a different plan completely which made Harry Reed, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank mad and they all stormed out angry. Senator McCain supported the house bill. The house bill is closer to what was passed although not in totality.

Now, Barack Obama gets on television after the whole thing was hammered out, just after (notice after action is taken) the Senate vote on the new bill. What does he say? He goes point by point through the GOP bill which made he and all of his buddies mad and says that he demanded that these things be implemented. When people in the media know the truth, why don’t they call him on these blatant lies? I’ll leave you to surmise that. Suffice to say, Barack Obama did nothing and now wants to claim credit for what others accomplished.

My opinion? It’s still a bad bill as is evident by the decline in the stock market. The market thrives on free enterprise. All of the people in the market gain confidence in our markets through free enterprise. Any government intervention is always seen as weakness in the markets. Fannie and Freddy failed and the government bailed them out. The markets declined sharply. AIG failed and the government intervenes. The markets declined sharply. Sub prim mortgage failures and the government bails them out and the markets declined sharply. We are in for a long road ahead and do we really want someone who sits and takes credit for other people’s work; who will raise taxes on businesses and hurt small businesses in particular? Or do we want a President who will be a friend to small business. Oh, both candidates supported this bad bill, but which one was honest? Which one demonizes those who create jobs and which one helps them create more jobs? I think the press needs to do a better job of simply telling the truth. Please feel free to share this blog and any others I’ve written which apply to as many Obama supporters you can. If the press won’t do their job, let’s not sit silently by and allow lies to go unchallenged.

Voting Present

While speaking at the Republican National Convention former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani made this statement about Barack Obama. He said, “over 130 times he (Barack Obama) voted present. It was just too hard. He couldn’t decide.” I thought this was one of the best moments of the convention, but I think we have seen this played out again with the financial bailout plan and Obama’s inability to really take a stand. Several of the major newspapers over the past week have referred to Obama’s unwillingness to get personally involved in the negotiating process shows that he is simply voting present once again. I believe this is the truth. One of the political observers this week, when commenting on the behavior of Obama in Washington, especially at the meeting with the President and other leaders at the White House, made the comment that Obama simply seems like a freshman senator. He looks uncomfortable because he is. He has not forged the types of relationships that you need in order to work with the power brokers on Capital Hill. He began running for President, one year into his US Senate term. He seems out of place and awkward and inappropriate because he is. According to those who were there, he went into the White House and lectured everyone which only served to put everyone at odds.

The history of the man is that he begins looking for a new job almost as soon as he gets his present job. He has not actually learned how to legislate. All he actually knows how to do is to run for office. He was handed his state senate seat by the corrupt Chicago political machine. He was handed legislation that he did not write, by this same political machine, to present to the Illinois State Senate as if it were his own in order to achieve greater stature. He has put his support (when he actually showed up to work) behind certain bills and now takes credit for said bills as if he actually authored them. The man has almost never actually done the job he was elected to do. So, with this history in mind, what does he do once he becomes President of the United States? There is no higher position to run for. Does he then run for world dictator? It seems that he might if we listen closely to his rhetoric (sarcasm intended )

Sean Hannity likes to ask this question and I believe it is at the core of what we need to think about when deciding who we will vote for. He asks this question regularly, “name 3 things that Barack Obama has done which qualifies him to be President of the United States?” This is a question that I have not heard any of his supporters really answer. The party line on the question is that he has been a community organizer, a state senator, a law professor and a US Senator. But that does not answer the question. What did he accomplish in these positions? As a community organizer, he lobbied the state legislature for money for some depressed neighborhoods in the south side of Chicago. That’s right, he was a lobbyist. What was the outcome of his work? Everyone involved in a neutral discussion about these neighborhoods says that the condition of these neighborhoods are worse off after the Obama years than they were before. As a law professor, I suppose he taught his class. As a state senator he worked as a puppet of the corrupt Chicago political machine, voted present probably more than he actually took a stand, gave a speech against the Iraq war (something his legislative body had no authority over) and thus began his run for US Senate. As a US Senator, he actually came to work (we don’t really know how often he showed up) for one year of a six year term and then began to run for President. By the way, during that one year of serving as a senator he is quoted as saying that he was not prepared for such a run (a statement I agree with by the way).

Why do I bring all this up? How can we elect a man who has never accomplished anything in his past positions to be the President of the United States? It’s unbelievable to me that he is even close in the polls. The man has actually done NOTHING. He’s seems like a nice guy, a smart guy and delivers a good speach. But this does not qualify a person to be the most powerful man in the free world.

If that’s not enough, what did he do during this current crisis? John McCain went to Washington to try to iron out a solution. The democrats could not get past the partisan bad feelings and refused to really compromise and came out with a bill that would not pass, but McCain went and insisted that conservatives be heard and they were heard, to almost no avail. Realize, the Republicans are not in a seat of power right now. They are at the mercy of the democrats who are too arrogant to compromise with anyone. Even 90+ of their own party did not vote for the final bill. But McCain at least got the other side heard. What did Obama do? He said he wanted to monitor the situation and see what the congress passed before he took a stand. He voted present. He did nothing.

Same ole same ole for Barack Obama, or should I say, “more of the same”? He is behaving consistent to his past. He is doing nothing and making speeches and, might I add, simply saying what someone else has told him to say.

How in the world can a man who is so indecisive, who is simply a “Monday morning quarterback”, who snipes at those who actually go to work and try to do something be elected President of the United States? We can see how he operates as a legislator. He shows up and votes present or doesn’t show up at all. In fact in the past 3 years of his term as a US Senator he has more non-votes than actual votes. How can a man like that get elected to the highest office in the land?

NO. I want a man who will actually attempt to do something; a man who has a record of doing the right thing whether it’s the popular thing or not; a man who will buck his own party if need be. That’s the kind of man I want. I want a man who has actually come to work for the past 26 years and done his job and taken it seriously, not simply looking at his present position as a stepping stone to the next; a man who has proven himself to truly be a non-partisan; a man who is respected by both parties in Washington. I want John McCain.

We will be in serious trouble in January if Barack Obama is sworn in as President. Stop listening to the rhetoric. Stop listening to the talking points. Stop believing his campaign ads. Don’t simply listen to what is being said. Every man has a record. What is Obama’s record? His record, his behavior, his modus operandi is consistently to do nothing. He would rather talk about something than actually do something. I want a President who will do something and then explain to us why. That’s John McCain.

What's The Difference?

Many people have asked me what the fuss is all about over this Wall Street bail out bill. It seems to the average citizen that it’s all the same thing and people wonder what the argument is all about. There are stark fundamental differences in what the democrats and, unfortunately, President Bush were trying to ram through and what conservatives want and it really exemplifies the differences between conservatives and liberals in the solution.

Before I get into the specifics, let me comment on the reactions of the two major Presidential candidates. John McCain set aside politics and went to Washington to do his job. He is still a US Senator and felt that shirking his responsibility in order to simply run for office was irresponsible although it may hurt his campaign. Barack Obama did what Obama always does. He said, “if they need me they can call me”. In essence, in this crisis, as in many other instances he is simply voting present. You may ask, what did McCain accomplish by going to Washington? Good question and that is what the rest of this blog intends to explain. What he accomplished was to oppose the measure that was on the table and get the conservative voice and I believe the voice of the people heard. Before McCain showed up, the democratic leadership was saying, “we have an agreement in principle”. But they had not even listened to the opposing side. McCain made sure that the house conservatives were heard and now it seems like the conservative bill is the one that will pass. The sticking point now is getting all of the ear marks out of the bill. Believe it or not, the democrats are still playing politics with your money. This is a bill that needs no ear marks. We have a crisis here. No ear marks. Now, here is the difference.

Let me try to make this simple. Both groups are looking at somewhere around $700 Billion that needs to be injected into the system in order for it to rebound. Some may say, “well $700 Billion is $700 Billion not matter how you look at it”. But is it really? It seems that both sides are speaking the same rhetoric, but do they want the same solution and which one is better for us, the tax payer? The democrats (including Barack Obama) and President Bush would like to give Wall Street a blank check for $700 billion and buy up (therefore the government would own) bad mortgages and the property they go with. In this plan, we the people would have to go to the federal government in order to get a mortgage. This is unadulterated socialism and a fundamentally wrong course. This plan grows the deficit $700 billion and puts us at the mercy of the federal government to borrow money.

What the conservatives (including John McCain) want is not a blank check given to companies who managed their affairs badly, but to in essence loan these corporations the money which will be paid back with interest. This has happened in the past with Chrysler and a bail out package to the country of Mexico where we as a nation actually made money and strengthened our nation’s bottom line. This plan still leaves banks in the private sector where they belong. It does not add to the national deficit, but will eventually cut it significantly, although this will take time. There is oversight built into the plan to make sure these bad loans are not ever made again so we will not get into this trouble in the future.

These differences go to the fundamental differences between the parties when core principles are strictly adhered to. The democrats think that it’s the government’s job to come in and pay for everything that troubles the US economy. This rewards people whether they run their companies properly or whether they are mismanaged. So, why do things the right way if the federal government is going to bail everyone out without consequences? The conservatives want government to assist when necessary, but still leave the burden on the companies who caused the problem. In other words, if companies have mismanaged their money, they should pay for it, not the American tax payer. In the conservative plan, Wall Street pays for this problem. In the democratic plan we the people pay for the mess made by these corporate executives. I’d rather Wall Street pay.

How did we end up in this mess? Every economist and historian agrees that this problem began with Bill Clinton and finance chairman Barney Frank over a decade ago. The Clinton administration in a well meaning effort to help low income families buy homes relaxed the regulations on home mortgages. Later in order to follow through with this strategy mortgage companies depended on federally backed Freddie Mack and Fannie Mae to offer loans to many people who could not afford to pay for these loans. Many, many of these people defaulted on their loans and left these institutions holding the bag. In short, it was the democratic philosophy of the government coming to the rescue that caused these fraudulent loans to be written to begin with. It was also a lack of oversight by the treasury department and the finance committee chaired by democrat Barney Frank. Now the democrats want to point the finger at the Republican Party which has not been in power for the past two years. The democrats hold power in both houses of congress which has direct power over the purse strings of the nation. They did nothing to avert this. In contrast John McCain wrote a bill with some others in the Senate a couple of years ago to try to stop this sort of lending warning that Fannie and Freddie were going to fail. All the Democrats on the committee voted no on the bill and all of the Republicans voted yes so the bill did not carry the support it needed and never even got to a vote on the floor of the Senate or the House. This is not just a partisan observation although I am a conservative, these are simply the facts as history will verify.

What do we do now? We can let our congressional reps know what we think. I personally think that I don’t want “we the people” to bail out Wall Street. Let’s approve the conservative plan that makes Wall Street pay back the loan. Just my opinion…

Peace Baby

Believe it or not, there are Christians who align themselves with the Republican party for one reason or another. There are Christians who align themselves with the Democratic party and there are Christians who stay independent or are Libertarian, Green, or some other party in the US political sphere. We can never make the mistake of looking at someone's party affiliation and seeing Christian or non-Christian. The Bible says:

Rom 12:18-21
18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

You know, this election is becoming more and more sharply divisive, but when all the rhetoric shakes out and we all head to the voting booth; when all the banners, buttons, yard signs and bumper stickers are put away and someone takes the oath of office, we are all Americans and more than that, as Christians, we are all believers in Jesus Christ.

So, while we may disagree sharply on the course of action that needs to be taken in January, we can agree that Jesus Christ is the only one who can change lives and redeem our hearts from the sinful bondage in which we used to walk. We cannot have election rhetoric divide us from out brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ.

I know that some things that the other side, which ever side you may be on, can make a person angry. It can even make a person of character question another's walk with God, but you know what our responsibility is? Our responsibility is to live at peace with one another. Between Democrats and Republicans there is a sharp divide and, politically, many things to disagree on. But as Christians, we must find that common ground where we can still stand side by side and work side by side with our brothers and sisters in Christ during and after the election season.

Yes, this election is vital for our nation, but loving our brothers and sisters in Christ is even more important. If the enemy (not the other party) can divide us from our brothers and sisters in Christ then we will not be able to defeat the real enemy the devil and his kingdom, the kingdom of darkness. Abraham Lincoln quoted Jesus just previous to the civil war when he said, "a house divided against itself cannot stand". Abraham Lincoln agreed with Jesus that it's important for us to stand together as Americans and more importantly as Christians.

I'm a Conservative Republican. I have been since I worked in 1980 with the College Republicans to elect Ronald Wilson Reagan President of the United States. But I want to say that in my congregaton, there are Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents and every other party available and we all come together on Sundays, Wednesdays and in other small group meetings and ministries as Christians. You know, we love each other and I haven't ever heard anyone ask, "are you a Republican or a Democrat?". It doesn't matter, the question is "do you know Jesus?". Do you know that now matter what your party affiliation, God loves you. We might disagree, but let's be grown up, mature Christians about it. Jesus said, "they will know you are my disciples because you love one another". Let's do that.

Oh, don't get me wrong. People have to fight the fight of a hard election and I intend to help fight that fight. We have to point out the truth and point out the gray areas and point out the down right lies. But when it's all said and done, we have to stand together as Christians and as Americans. As far as it depends on us, to live at peace with one another because a house divided, whether a political house or a house of worship, cannot stand.

So, yes, fight the good fight in this election, but let's not cross the line where our emotions divide us from good people on both sides of the political ilse.

Again, God loves you and God loves your political opponent. When it comes to the body of Christ, let's put our politics aside at times to simply find common ground; agree to disagree about the political and move forward to advance against the real enemy, the kingdom of darkness.

"Make Politics Cool Again"

During the forum on service that Obama and McCain both participated in, Senator Obama made this statement:

"I want to be the guy who makes politics cool again".

This was received at his alma mater, Columbia University, with thunderous applause from the students in attendance. I have thought about this statement since the snore of a forum was presented on 9/11/08. After complaining that the McCain campaign compared him to pop culture celebrities, Obama has the audacity, to say that he wants to be the "cool guy" in politics. What’s he saying? “I want to be a people pleaser.” We have had years of people governing according to popularity polls and it doesn’t work. I don’t want a leader who is simply worried about being popular. I want a President who will lead from real convictions about what is right and what is wrong. I don’t need a celebrity in the White House, I want someone who is willing to lay down his popularity if need be to serve the needs of the people.

When Barack Obama begins to spew his socialist diatribe of government will take over every area of your life in order to make life better for you, I cringe. I heard him say today that the promise of America is that you can work hard so that you will be guaranteed a paycheck to pay your bills. While this is the hope of everyone, we all know that this is NOT the promise of any capitalist society. No, it’s NOT the promise of America. The promise of America is that everyone will have an opportunity to work hard and receive reasonable pay for their work. The promise of America is that government will do it’s best to facilitate an environment so that whatever your business, you have the possibility to make a success out of your business. This will mean that you will have a government that will not regulate your industry so much that you cannot possibly make a profit because of so many government regulations. Too many regulations will tie your hands causing you to lay people off, lower people’s salaries and so forth.

When all is said and done, the promise of America is the promise of a chance to succeed. In Obama’s America, the promise that he keeps touting is success for everyone. It IS the proverbial musical chairs where there is a chair for every child. No, success is measured by the hard work that goes on inside of each business and the ability and imagination to market whatever you are selling. The promise of America has never been success for everyone. Who can promise that? But that is what Obama is promising. Is it even close to being a possibility? No, but that doesn’t matter. He wants to be the cool politician. He wants to be a celebrity. So, say what the people want to hear no matter the facts.

Obama’s wife’s thesis from Princeton was just released to the public. I find it to be a fascinating insight into the Obama family mindset. I don’t want to go into the subject matter as it is racially divisive, but I am interested in the process and the outcome. Michelle Obama wrote a thesis where she hypothesized a particular state of being at Princeton. She then went out and did research by polling those involved. No one she polled agreed that they were being affected as she suggested in her hypothesis. Even though none of her test subjects agreed with her hypothesis – NONE, not one – her conclusion still maintained the correctness of her original notion. How does that give us insight into an Obama campaign and possible Presidency? Just this way: it matters not what the facts say, the Obamas are going to promote their ideas even when they know that the facts do not support what they are saying.

So, the next time you hear Obama say lofty things that every thinking person listens to and says, “how are they going to do that and everything else they have promised too?” Just understand, the facts are irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if it’s possible or not. It only matters if the idea is popular, because Obama is most interested in being cool; being popular; being a celebrity. The facts don’t matter. The Obamas want things to be a certain way, so they will promise it whether it’s possible or not. Oh, you might think that they are lying. No, to someone who cares not about the facts, it’s not a lie, it’s lofty ideals and high mindedness. It’s “yes we can” politics. Yes we can ignore the facts of a matter; offer impossible promises; raise people’s hopes and, when our nation is crumbling around us, refuse to admit that you were wrong because it was popular; it was what the people called for; it was new.

Here’s a new description: IT IS WRONG.

Never Forget 9/11

Today is the anniversary of the day we all said we would never forget. We all remember where we were when those planes slammed into the twin towers, but to some, the newness has worn off and life has become business as usual. We have captured or killed all who are responsible for the attacks with the exception of one. But have we forgotten that we have not yet caught Osama Bin Laden? We have not completely shut down Al Quaida, but many say that we have no business going after Bin Laden where they believe he is hiding in Pakistan. I say, let's not rest until the world can rest from terrorism.

We were attacked. Many, many brave men and women gave their lives that day to try to rescue their fellow New Yorkers trapped in the burning twin towers. We remember those brave fire fighters and policemen and other first responders who gave their lives on that day. Equally, we remember those brave soldiers who have laid down their lives in the war on terror wherever it may have taken them. The Bible says, “greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friend”. These have all displayed what Jesus defines as the greatest love that there is and I, for one, will not forget them.

Many want to simply slide back into the slumber that this sleeping giant of a nation was in prior to those planes slamming into those buildings and killing our fellow Americans. Many would like to simply stick their head in the sand and pretend that terrorists will simply go away if we talk nicely to them. Many come up with rhetoric sounding like the defense of this nation has somehow made us less safe than we were on 9-11-2001, but my friends many have laid down their lives to insure our safety and I, for one, will not belittle their sacrifice by saying that it counted for nothing.

Let me just say that everyone who has worked to insure that the US does not have another attack here on our soil is a hero, from the soldier who fights for us overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan and several other fronts in the world; to the FBI and CIA agent intercepting chatter of plans to unleash another attack here and foiled that plot; to the Homeland security people and the airport screeners and the local and state police to the National Guard and the Coast Guard, I say thank you and we will not forget your sacrifices to keep all of us safe. And while I’m at it (though I’m quite sure he won’t see this blog), thank you President George W. Bush and your administration for doing what is right and not necessarily what is popular to keep our nation safe even though many don’t appreciate your efforts. History will record that we had the right man in the White House for just this occasion. Thank you Mr. President.

Many, for political reasons, would like us to move the events of 911 into the back of our minds and lull the sleeping giant back to sleep. I will not EVER forget that day and how it changed this nation forever. We said we would never forget and that we would never give up, we would not falter and we would not fail. Let’s honor the memory of everyone who has touched our lives in the war on terror. Today, if you see a policeman, fireman, soldier or public official, walk right up to them and shake their hand, buy their lunch, thank them or whatever you can do, but remember that we live in safety today because they lay down their lives EVERY DAY for us.

What's It All About?

You know, often people ask what church is all about. They ask what they will get out of church. They get angry because someone doesn't look right or speak right or act right. Jesus said it is the sick who need a physician. There is simply no perfect church because we will not be perfect until we see Jesus face to face. Paul says it this way, "we who are strong ought to bare with the failings of the weak". This is what Grace Fellowship is about I believe. It's not about a bunch of people who think they are perfect or better than smeone else getting together to feel sorry for all those other poor slobs out there. No, it's about imperfect people getting together and as the writer of Hebrews says, "spurring one another on towards love and good deeds and to encourage one another all the more as the day approaches". Why would we need encouragement if we have already arrived. No, church is about getting together and learning to love and forgive just as Christ loves us and forgave all of our great transgressions. In fact, Jesus says if we can't forgive our brother when he sins against us, our heavenly Father WILL NOT forgive us. So, when we gather together. Let's not do so to find fault because there is plenty to be found. Let's not come looking for how church will benefit us. Let's come and look to love others and pour encouragement into the lives of the weak and to appreciate the testimony of the strong. When we do that, we will tear down the walls of our enemy and send him runnig away in defeat.

The cry is "racist".

It seems lately I'm using my blog to express my political opinions. Since, as a pastor, I get to openly declare my thoughts on Jesus regularly in church, maybe this is the only place I can share political thoughts, so bare with me again...

There are real issues at stake this election, but people who don’t understand how the economy works, when backed into a corner seem to cry “racist” instead of standing toe to toe on the issues, they attack you personally by calling you a racist. The issue is that Barrack Obama has a real voting record that is easy for anyone to find on the internet. Just simply Google “Obama voting record” and it’s easy to see what he is for and what he is against (if he decided to show up for the vote). It is a matter of public record that Obama has more non-votes since he’s been in the US Senate than votes. He voted “present” 130 times in the Illinois State Senate. It is a matter of public record that he voted 3 times against a bill to ban live birth abortion. It is a matter of public record that he votes in lock step with the liberals (pro abortion, pro taxes, pro socialized medicine, pro big government, anti military, anti 2nd amendment, on and on and on) of course, that is if he shows up to vote. He voted against the surge that McCain pushed and that turned the tide in Iraq. He is against drilling, against Nuclear power and against clean coal. These are all a matter of public record.

It is a matter of public record that he has never led anything and he wants his first leadership experience to be in the White House. He has never administrated a budget for anything except his campaigns. He has not authored one piece of legislation. If you look at his economic plan, it is socialist at best and communist at worst. At any rate it is the socialist idea of wealth redistribution.

His close friends include a terrorist William Ayers who launched his political career. He is close to the anti American Rev Wright who shouts “not God bless America; God D__n America” and blames the US for not only the 911 attacks, but for the AIDS epidemic and for many other outlandish claims.

These are facts, but if you bring these things up, people don’t argue with you over the facts. They call you a racist. It is not racist to love your country and simply not want the US to become the next failed experiment in socialism. The best non-partisan economists warn of not only recession, but an economic depression if Obama’s economic plan is enacted.

Bring any of this up to an Obama supporter and you will not get a discourse on the issues, because they are largely unaware of the facts, but you will get personally attacked as a bigot, a racist or out of touch with the rest of society.

What I would like to ask is why can’t we disagree without calling our disagreement on issues hatred? I’m increasingly tired of not being able to discuss real issues that are important to all of us. If you disagree with anyone on the left they accuse you of hate speech. It’s really not hatred to want immigrants to immigrate legally. We are a nation of laws. We need to uphold those laws. There is a logical disconnect on the left because they know that the facts on all of these issues are not on their side. My wife immigrated legally (she was Canadian until July of this year). Other people can too. What is wrong and what is hateful about saying that? I don’t get it.

I don’t know why people have to behave like small children, who when they run out of logical ammunition and start name calling when they find themselves in a losing argument. The more the left accuses everyone of racism, or bigotry, or being out of touch or of hate speech, the more I hear children fighting on a playground. The louder they shout, just hear the truth. They are shouting and throwing a tantrum because the truth and the facts are not on their side. Scripture says, “you will know the truth and the truth will set you free”. All I want to know and discuss is the truth. We don’t need spin and empty slogans and gotcha moments. We need the truth. I’m tired of hearing people’s words taken out of context. Let’s speak the truth in love and if someone disagrees with us, let’s discuss the facts in a grown up fashion. We have the truth on our side. No need for name calling. That’s just my opinion.

Why I'm Voting For John McCain

After some "conversations" with friends, I felt it necessary to give a brief summary of why Don Carr, private citizen, is voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin. No, I won’t be going through each policy one at a time, I suggest to research and find out the truth yourself.

My fear while listening to Senator McCain last night was that many would simply listen to the first 15 minutes of McCain’s speech and then tune out. I have to say, McCain is no orator and it took a bit to get started, but if you listened to the whole speech, your heard why we support McCain for President. Senator McCain took about 15 minutes thanking everyone and sloganeering but then took the next 34 minutes to spell out exactly what the difference is between he and Obama. I have to admit, I sat there thinking, “say something John”. He finally did and when he did, he hit it out of the park and I don’t know if you stayed to see it or not, but this man who admits that he would rather be in a town hall meeting, received 27 standing ovations and had the crowd on their feet cheering and shouting as he spoke the last several sentences of his speech. Everyone in the nation needs to find the Saddleback forum he did where Pastor Rick Warren asked both candidates separately about how they would run the country. Obama skirted most issues and McCain knocked it out of the park. Find it online if you have not seen it. It’s worth your time if you seriously want to know the facts and not just the rhetoric.

I don't need an entertainer for President. I need someone who will actually work for me and the rest of us in the U.S. and not promise socialism at best and communism at worst with rhetoric right out of Lennon's and Marx's manifestos. If you listened to Obama, he proved to be someone who knows how to manipulate the crowd, but has no command of the issues or he's a more skilled liar than most that have come before him. I would think that all small business owners would be very worried about the tax hikes on those who earn $250,000 or more and tax hikes on businesses and health care demands which will place the burden directly on the small business owner which, by the way makes up 90% of Gross Domestic Product. The employee looks at that and says, “yeah, stick it to the man” not knowing that “the man” they are wanting it stuck to is likely the man who provides his job. Businesses only have a certain amount of money to operate on. When the federal government takes away operating capital to finance their socialistic policies, how will that business find that money? They will have to fire employees (because they have no money to pay them) and raise prices (because they still have to pay for the ones they don’t fire). This will cause incredible inflation and unemployment like we have never seen since Jimmy Carter. By the way unemployment has finally grown back to what it was at the best stage of the Clinton Presidency and they taut him as some savior. We have been at what has traditionally been called full employment (5% or better) for the past 6 years until just now and the dems lie to you and say we are now facing record unemployment. Don’t listen to the lie, look at the facts. I know that, after looking at his policies in detail, Obama will (not might, will) drive our private school if not our entire church out of business. You may want to listen to more than the delivery of the speech and see what the man will do to YOU and to me.

Yes, Obama is very capable of giving a speech. Through this campaign and basically throughout his entire career all Obama has proven is that he is a self absorbed, narcissistic individual who knows how to give a speech, vote present and write books about himself. He has no record whatsoever of leading anything. The policies of Obama will destroy the very fabric of our nation and any sense of free enterprise (capitalism) will be gone. John McCain has a proven record of fighting for the people. It’s his policies I’m interested in, not his delivery. I watched his speech with a full theater of those “out of touch” Republicans last night. None of us found his speech boring. It informed and he didn’t need a stadium and a movie set to further boost his ego either. He stood there as a guy who has sacrificed for his country repeatedly and intends to continue to sacrifice for us for as long as it takes with policies like low taxes for everyone, school choice, life for the unborn, judges that won’t legislate from the bench, a strong national defense, protecting us from attacks from terrorists, improved foreign relations, lower fuel prices using all means necessary, getting rid of dependence on foreign oil, less federal spending, getting rid of earmark spending, getting rid of corruption in Washington and has a proven record of doing exactly what he promises. For anyone who thinks McCain is just another George Bush, either purposely does not listen, or has not done the due diligence to get past the rhetoric and actually look at the two men. I suggest everyone do so before they vote. They will find that at this moment in history, we need John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I know that some of you don’t agree with me politically and I love you anyway, but I also believe that intelligent individuals can’t actually be sucked in by all of the pomp and circumstance. Hitler was a great orator as well. Vladimir Lennon and Karl Marx had quite compelling arguments that seemed to represent the common man. These men who had great rhetoric destroyed their citizens and made the world a terrible place all the while they espoused good will towards those same citizens. This is almost the exact same rhetoric Barack Obama is using. I for one am not buying it. I’m voting McCain.

The dems worst nightmare

It has never ceased to amaze me how those who are supposed to support women react to a strong woman who has character and traditional values. When Sarah Palin hit the political scene as John McCain’s running mate, where was the applause from the feminists? Oh you won’t ever hear it. Sarah Palin is a liberal’s worst nightmare. She is a strong woman who not only talks about her values, but lives them. It’s not enough in a real world to simply say you believe something. Our actions say what we believe. What do Sarah Palin’s actions say about what she believes?

She says she is pro life. Even when told that her newest baby was down syndrome, she didn’t abort the baby, she gave birth to a son whom she loves. When asked why them, her husband said, “why not us”. When confronted with her oldest daughter’s pregnancy, she loved her and encouraged her to take the child to term which she is doing.

She says she is against corruption in government. She has shut down government corruption from the mayor’s office to the state house of Alaska. She shut down corruption in the oil industry and passed ethics legislation reaching across the isle to do so.

She says she is for the second amendment. She is an avid hunter

She says she is for lower taxes and against wasteful spending. She lowered taxes and cut half a billion dollars from the Alaskan budget.

She says she understands what small business owners are going through. She ran a small business

She says she is pro family. She is a mother of 5 and married to the same man for 20 years, a man whom she says is still her hero.

She says she is for country ahead of party. She took on her own party corruption in Alaska and cleaned house in less than two years.

You see, while so many are out there making speeches about what they believe, Sarah Palin doesn’t just talk a good game, she lives it. Maybe we should take a look at what all the candidates have done and not just what they say.

Yes, Sarah Palin is the left’s worst nightmare, a woman who walks the walk and holds onto traditional moral values and is still a strong, successful woman. She didn’t need help from anyone to accomplish all she has accomplished and that scares the left to death. I love it!!!

Just a note, Barack Obama says that his candidacy is not about him, it’s about us, but what are his actions? He has written 2 autobiographies, but he didn’t even stay in Washington for his freshman year to write any legislation to help us. He immediately began running for President without legislating on our behalf at all. While in the Illinois state Senate, he over 130 times voted “present” instead of making a decision. He has shown by his actions that his candidacy is all about him and any office he holds is about him and not at all about the people he represents. It takes more than the President being present to get something done for the people. But it’s not about the people, it’s about Obama.

I want a candidate who not only talks the talk, but one who walks the walk.

Will History Repeat Itself?

I am a patriot. I love this country and am very disturbed, in light of history, at what is going on in this country, the greatest nation on the face of this planet. There is a movement going around that pits those who have a lot against those who don't have very much. They pit young against old. They pit the healthy against the sick. It's not a new tactic. It's been used many times to overthrow powerful nations. It was used in a country far, far away from here. The country had a long, proud tradition and when those with "hope" for "taking their country back" and giving it to the people came, they focussed on young people and promised them a nation that would provide equal economic status for everyone. They promised that the state would provide healthcare. They promised a free college education and a job for everyone. They promised corporate regulation and fixed prices at the grocery store. Not bad promises right? They saw themselves as those who knew more than the regular working class of the nation. They saw themselves as doing what they were doing for the betterment of all of their national comrads. They initiated something called the dictatorship of the common citizen and said that, once empowered, they would truly empower the people to be all that they could truly be as a nation of equals. No one above anyone else. Sound familiar?

No, these are not democrats. Remember, they were in a nation far away. But it sounds like the promises of the democratic left. I heard these same promises, the promises of the Soviet Revolution promised by Karl Marx and Vladamir Lennon, promised again at the Democratic National Convention. My friends, Nikita Kruschev prophesied during the Kennedy administration that the US would not be brought down from without, but that the US would be brought down from within. I am seeing his prophecy coming true as unsuspecting young warriors plod along preaching the doctrine of "hope". But what hope are they preaching? They are preaching a hope that will eventually strip us of our freedom. It will rob us of the human dignity that our soldiers have spilled blood to preserve. Oh the promises of the Soviet Revolution talked about sacrifices everyone would have to make for a "short while". That short while brought on the largest regime of oppression this world has ever known.

Now, my blog is just for my observations on the world, on faith, on family and friends and some of that will at times spell out warnings from history. The DNC that I watched on TV was simply preaching the doctrines of pure communism where those who have are demonized and those who have not are glorified. In the other revolution I spoke of, those who worked hard and made a life for themselves and for their families and provided jobs for everyone else were not honored, but had what they had worked hard for taken away from them and given to someone who did not desire to work nor to provide jobs, much less take care of his or her own family. This broke the desire to have a strong work ethic and a once strong and proud nation wasted away into poverty and third world conditions much worse than anything they once tried to break free from and they conquered other nations and oppressed them as well.

The point of this blog? Often charismatic leaders and well spoken (and even well intended) individuals can lead those who have no memory of the past and no knowledge of the truth into lofty sounding dreams. Those dreams then turn to a great nightmare of dispair. Ronald Wilson Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush ended the long nightmare of despair for those trapped in the Soviet Union. Let's not then turn and believe the same lies those who were trapped by communism believed and lead this nation down the same nightmarish path.

Let's think. Let's not just march blindly along behind class warfare and lose our freedom to socialism. That's what they are selling and they package it in a shroud of "hope". The hope they offer will turn to a dream all right, but that dream will become a nightmare. I, for one, am not buying. I will vote for a patriot. I will vote for a man or woman of character. I will vote for one who demonstrates a strict belief in the Constitution of the United States. I hope you will as well.
